Right now, at least 742 individuals are experiencing homelessness in Whatcom County on any given night, with a growing number of them being children and teenagers. Over 1,200 youth aged 13–24 faced homelessness or unstable housing in 2023, according to Northwest Youth Services. Rising rents—up 41% in the past five years—and unexpected financial hardships leave many families and youth without a place to call home.

Shockingly, the number of homeless families in the county has doubled since 2020, with young people often left to live in cars, under bridges, or in unsafe conditions. Behind every statistic is a child, struggling for safety and stability
